SUITABLE FOR:

WORKSHOP THEMES:

  • Representation

  • Arts & Culture

  • History

WORKSHOP SUMMARY: The Nude Gallery is a collection of: Items that are deliberately made to mimic human skin tones i.e., ballet shoes, sticky plasters, hosiery, make-up, etc. Items that represent humans in our varying skin tones i.e., dolls, mannequins, wedding cake toppers, etc. The primary aim of the collection is to pose the following questions: Why have these items historically been made to match white skin tones? How is it that the dictionary definition of the word “Nude” is no longer exclusive to the Western-European-centric Caucasian skin tone? Activities will include an exhibition trail and a crafting challenge.
