  • Recycling

WORKSHOP SUMMARY Our Mask making workshop is inspired by the work of Yuroba artist Romuald Hazoumè who uses salvaged materials (old jerry cans and other found objects) to tell stories.   Learners will view images of Hazoumès masks, choose a book from our library of environmental children’s books for Storytime, and conclude the workshop by creating their own masks from discarded everyday household packaging.   Hazoume's masks do not carry the significance assigned to more sacred traditional African ones, but he has his own point to make and it touches on social issues like the pervasive reach and impact of Western-generated consumer culture on African countries.
